Why is the Japanese Speech & Skit Contest (WAJSSC) important?
Washington State has long been the home of an established and influential Japanese and Japanese-American community. A wide spectrum of Japanese influence is felt throughout the state, ranging from the presence of Japanese cuisine, community-wide cultural events, scenic gardens, places of historical significance, pop culture, and the Japanese language itself.

What opportunities does WAJSSC provide to Japanese language students?

  • Provides a platform for students to demonstrate their knowledge of the Japanese language and culture to the wider Washington State community.

  • Encourage students to pursue their Japanese studies and further develop their Japan-related interests.

  • Allow students to inspire each other by demonstrating their Japanese language talent.

  • To celebrate students who are passionate about learning a language and culture different from their own.

Your support will provide students with the following opportunities:

  • A sponsored trip to Japan for the high school and college contest winners to truly experience the culture, language, and daily life in Japan firsthand.

  • A domestic roundtrip flight to Los Angeles for the high school contest winners to compete in the national All-USA Japanese High School Speech Contest, hosted by the Japanese Scholarship Foundation.

  • Encouragement for students to compete in the WAJSSC by providing attractive awards.

How can you support WAJSSC?

You can support the WAJSSC by becoming a corporate sponsor or in-kind sponsor.

  • Corporate sponsorships starting at $500

  • In-kind sponsorships providing travel to Japan, such as:

    • Roundtrip airfare to Japan to provide more students with a chance to embark on a study trip hosted by the Hyogo International Association.
